Sosialarbeiderens hjelperrolle i kommunal rustjeneste. En kvalitativ intervjustudie om hva som bestemmer hvilken hjelperrolle sosialarbeidere i kommunal rustjeneste inntar overfor voksne rusavhengige

Abstract

Sosialt arbeid er under stadig utvikling. Som sosialarbeidere innen kommunal rustjeneste står man i den daglige ansikt-til-ansikt-kontakten med sårbare mennesker som er en del av en stigmatisert gruppe. Som den profesjonelle i samhandlingen har sosialarbeideren ansvaret. Mangelen på forskningsbasert kunnskap om hvordan sosialarbeiderens hjelperrolle blir påvirket, kan føre til manglende utvikling på feltet. Samtidig kan mangelen hindre den enkelte å oppnå god bevisstgjøring og refleksjon rundt egen yrkesutøvelse. Som profesjonell vil det derfor være viktig å være bevisst på hva man bringer inn i sin rolle som sosialarbeider, herunder egne følelser, reaksjoner, tolkninger og handlinger. Prosjektet har benyttet teorigrunnlag fra Zacka og Lipsky for å forstå ulike hjelperroller man kan innta, og bakkebyråkratens arbeidsvilkår, samt hvordan de tilpasser seg dette. På bakgrunn av dette og empiri har prosjektet undersøkt hva som bestemmer hvilken hjelperrolle sosialarbeidere i kommunal rustjeneste inntar overfor voksne rusavhengige. Prosjektet er en kvalitativ, hermeneutisk intervjustudie, hvor vi benyttet fokuserte dybdeintervju av fire sosialarbeidere innen ulike kommunale rustjenester. Formålet med intervjuene var å få fram sosialarbeiderens refleksjoner og erfaringer rundt egne opplevelser. Datamaterialet ble analysert etter en deduktiv og induktiv metode. Funnene viser til at informantene opplever det utfordrende å jobbe med rusavhengige under de satte arbeidsvilkårene. Dette, samt ulike faktorer brukere bringer inn i samspillet påvirker sosialarbeideren til å innta ulike roller. I tillegg bringer sosialarbeiderne faktorer som personlige verdier, moraler og forventninger inn i samhandlingen. Prosjektet konkluderer med at de nevnte aspektene fra funn har innvirkning på hvilken rolle sosialarbeideren inntar. Det viser seg at hva som trigger den enkelte til å innta de ulike rollene er individuelt, og at sosialarbeidere har ulike holdninger om hvilke brukere som er «verdige» deres hjelp.

Abstract Social work is constantly evolving. As social workers within municipal health services for people with substance abuse disorders, you are in daily face-to-face contact with vulnerable people who are part of a stigmatized group. As the professional in the interaction, the social worker is the responsible part. The lack of research-based knowledge about how the social workers role is affected, can lead to a lack of development in the field. Also, the lack of this knowledge can prevent the social worker from being aware and reflect on their own professional practice. As a professional, it will therefore be important to be aware of what you bring in to the role as a social worker, such as your own feelings, reactions, interpretations and actions. This project has utilized theoretical foundations from Zacka and Lispky to understand the various roles one can take on, and the street level bureaucrat’s working conditions, as well as how they adapt to them. Based on this and empirical findings, the project has examined what determines the role social workers within municipal health services for adult people with substance abuse disorders take on. The study is a qualitative, hermeneutic interview study, where we utilized focused in-depth interviews with four social workers within various municipal health services for people with substance abuse disorders. The purpose of the interviews was to elicit the social worker´s reflections and own experiences. The data was analyzed using a deductive and inductive method. The findings show that the informants find it challenging to work with people with substance abuse disorders under set working conditions. This, as well as various factors service users bring into the interaction, influence the social worker to take on different roles. In addition, the social workers bring factors such as personal values, morals and expectations into the interaction. This project concludes that the aforementioned aspects from our findings, influence which role the social worker takes on. It turns out that what triggers each social worker is individual, and that each social worker has their own opinion about which service users are “worthy” of their help.
