Summary The extent of support regarding special education in this survey, both in regards to special education and assistants/educators, varies extremely. How much special education a child with CI receives, might look like a "game of chance". While it seems the children were diagnosed with CI throughout the year, the children only began with special education at the start of the fall term (which is when kindergarten start up again after the holiday). That might suggest that it is not always the child's best interest that is at the forefront. This survey indicates that Statped/others more often than not supplies support and guidance before the child starts receiving special education. Several of the children in this survey have received home study courses. That has been assessed as a fair and suitable organization of the time right after the sound has been switched on. All of the participants in this survey chose to begin with individual teaching. As the child ages, the use of small groups increases. The reason for the use of individual teaching is the need to shield the child against excessive noise pollution. Much emphasis has been put on a play-oriented approach to the special education. All of the parents of the children in this survey have chosen an AVT or AV based approach. This survey indicates that the book "Lytte, lære, snakke" is the "main textbook" in the special education for preschoolers with CI. There seems to be a focus on spoken language on the whole. The children in this selection receive limited training in the use of signing - both from Norsk Tegnspråk and from NmT. The decision in regards to the use of sign language has been reached by the parents in consultation with the Norwegian hospital Rikshospitalet and often also with Statped/ others. Despite differing opinions on the use of sign language, the special needs educators follow faithfully what the parents have decided on course of learning. These educators and the parents work closely with the kindergartens and Statped/others towards a common goal. They have a common focus. This survey indicates that there are no plan B in the kindergartens in case someone gets sick. Unforeseen leaves of absence result in no follow-ups for the children when key players or other employees in the kindergartens get sick. It seems that the major challenge is to create good acoustics in kindergartens. This survey indicates that the greatest challenges occur in regular kindergartens and in regular departments. The cooperation with Statped/others results in proficiency in hearing in the child's first department. However, it seems that the challenges in changing departments are not resolved in the present system. It seems that courses and guidance offered by Statped/others have increased the children's' proficiency in hearing in regular kindergartens. However, there are still differences in practical accommodation, especially in regards to routines in how the children are divided into groups.en
