Kopilot. Den profesjonelle relasjonen på barnevernsinstitusjon

Abstract

Barneverninstitusjoner har et samfunnsmandat som tilrettelegger for at ungdommer skal få tilstrekkelig omsorg og utviklingsmiljø der foresatte ikke kan gi nok støtte. Miljøterapeutene som arbeider på barnevernsinstitusjon jobber etter metoder som skal være faglig, etisk forsvarlige og tilpasset til institusjonen. Den profesjonelle relasjonen er en stor del av den utøvende praksisen for sosialarbeidere. Med dette utgangspunktet er det nødvendig å danne seg bedre innsikt i hvordan en kan forme den profesjonelle relasjonen med ungdom. Denne oppgaven vil belyse de utfordringene som er knyttet til den profesjonelle relasjonen. Hvordan kan den profesjonelle relasjonen oppleves som betydningsfull, gjensidig og personlig, uten at den blir invaderende for ungdommen. Miljøterapeutene vi har intervjuet arbeider på barnevernsinstitusjon. Arbeidstiden er en medleverturnus hvor de arbeider sammenhengende i 14 dager med ungdom. I bakgrunnen av dette vil dette forskningsprosjektet ta for seg hvordan ansatte på barnvernsinstitusjon forstår deres profesjonelle relasjon. Carl Rogers utviklet en teori hvor han forklarer relasjonen mellom klient og terapeut hvor han belyser ulike bestanddeler som forekommer i relasjonen mellom klienten og terapeuten. Disse bestanddelene har han kategorisert i empati, ekthet, kongruens og bevissthet om følelser. Dette forskningsproskjektet vil ta for seg miljøteraputenes forståelse av bestandelenes betydning i deres profesjonelle relasjon.

Abstract Child welfare institutions have a social mandate that should facilitate that youths get the care and room for development when parents fall too short. The environmental therapists that work at the institutions work with methods which are professional, ethical and customized to the institution. The professional relationship is a big part of the social workers' practical handling of their job. Therefore it is important to gain insight in how they can shape their relationships with the youths. This assignment will try to bring light to the challenges related to this professional relationship between the parts. How can the experience of the professional relationship feel both meaningful, mutual and personal, without being intrusive for the youth. Environmental therapists that we have interviewed work in institutions where they work 14 days continuously. In this assignment we will look at how the therapists at the institutions understand their professional relationship. Carl Rogers developed a theory explaining the relationship between a client and a therapist where he categorized the ingredients as empathy, realness, congruence and consciousness about feelings. In this research project we will look at the environmental therapist's understanding of the ingredients’ importance in their professional relationships.
