Påvirkning mellom ungdommer i barnevernsinstitusjoner. En kvalitativ studie om ringvirkninger gjennom miljøterapeutenes perspektiv

Abstract

Dette forskningsprosjektet er en kvalitativ studie gjort gjennom dybdeintervjuer, med tematikken rundt ungdommers smitteeffekt i barnevernsinstitusjoner. Vi har gjennom praksis og arbeidserfaring sett at det kan oppstå utfordringer rundt ungdommers påvirkningskraft mellom hverandre, og ser derfor på temaet som høyst relevant for sosialt arbeid. Problemstillingen er derfor: Hvordan håndterer man utfordringer som følger av at ungdommer i barnevernsinstitusjoner flokker seg til hverandre i stedet for personalet. For å belyse problemstillingen benytter vi relasjonsteori, risikohåndtering, toleransevinduet og kognitiv atferdsterapi, samt at vi ønsker å bruke tre forskningsartikler med overføringsverdi til temaet. For å innhente empirien som blir brukt i oppgaven, har vi gjennomført 3 forskjellige kvalitative dybdeintervjuer med 3 forskjellige miljøterapeuter fra 3 forskjellige typer barnevernsinstitusjoner. For å kun ta med det vi så på som mest essensielt, samt anonymisere deltakerne, har vi behandlet intervjuene gjennom lydopptak, kodet de gjennom MAXQDA, og så skrevet sammendrag av sammendrag. Funnene våre sier noe om at alle informantene har opplevd en form for smitteeffekt blant ungdommene, samt at dette har påvirket personalgruppen på et personlig nivå, og det miljøterapeutiske arbeidet. Vi ser en kobling mellom funnene og forskningsartiklene som blir benyttet, der problematikk og bakgrunn hos ungdommene har innvirkning på hvordan deres relasjon seg imellom påvirker miljøterapeutisk arbeid. Vi konkluderer med at problematikken i tema fortsatt er et eksisterende problem for miljøterapeuter, samt at det finnes lite av ny forskning på feltet. Likevel kan vi se at gjennom gode relasjoner, planlegging, tillit, tilpassing og et trygt personal, kan man forebygge og håndtere de utfordringer som kommer av antisosiale relasjoner blant ungdommene. Abstract This research project is a qualitative study done through in-depth interviews, with the theme of the contagion effect of youths in child welfare institutions. Through work experience, we have seen that challenges can arise regarding youths influence between each other, and therefore see the topic as highly relevant for social work. The problem of this thesis is therefore: How to handle challenges that result from youths in child welfare institutions flocking to each other instead of the staff. To shed light on the problem, we use relational theory, risk management, the tolerance window and cognitive behavioral therapy, and we want to use three research articles with transfer value to the topic. To obtain the empirical data used in the thesis, we conducted 3 different qualitative in-depth interviews with 3 different environmental therapists from 3 different types of child welfare institutions. To include only what we saw as most essential, as well as to anonymize the participants, we processed the interviews through audio recordings, coded them through MAXQDA, and then wrote summaries of summaries. Our empirical findings say that all the informants have experienced a form of contagion effect among the youths, and that this has affected the staff group on a personal level, and the environmental therapeutic practice. We see a link between the findings and the research articles that are used, where the problems and background of the youths have an impact on how their relationship with each other affects environmental therapeutic work. We conclude that the issue in the topic is still an existing problem for environmental therapists, and that there is little new research on the subject. Nevertheless, we can see that through good relationships, planning, trust, adaptation, and a safe staff, one can prevent and deal with the challenges that come from antisocial relationships among youths in child welfare institutions.
